Marus Timpel was a Human Jedi Knight about six centuries before the Clone Wars and near extinction of the Jedi. Born on Coruscant and raised in the Jedi Temple, Marus honed his Force skills and eventually attained the rank of Jedi Master. One day, while on routine duties on the planet of Antar 4, Marus met a Gotal that had been turned down for Jedi training years earlier; in fact, turned away by Marus himself.

This Gotal's name was Kaskutal and possessed none of the bitterness many beings acquired when turned away for Jedi training. He still possessed an admiration for the Jedi Order and made a very successful life for himself since then as a businessman. Marus and Kaskutal soon became friends and Marus would express his frustration on how his life as a Jedi limited him in available resources. Upon hearing this, Kaskutal proceeded to raise funds to create an organization the could help the Jedi Order in ways that would alleviate some of Marus' frustrations.

The organization founded became known as the Antarian Rangers and as it grew and expanded, it moved beyond the borders of Antar 4 acquiring more and more members of beings who also admired the Jedi and wished to help the Jedi in any way possible. Throughout the rest of his career as a Jedi, Marus Timpel was accompanied by Kaskutal whose resources and limited Force-sensibility proved more than valuable on multiple occasions.
